Membrane switches with embedded LEDs

SM Technology makes embedding LEDs into the membrane switch design possible. LEDs are either mounted on LED circuit layers with flex-tails (see Fig. 1), or directly on the bottom circuit layer. In this case a graphic overlay must be embossed over the LED (see Fig. 2). The most commonly supplied LEDs are red, green, and yellow. Bicolour, blue, and other LEDs are also available. Please refer a request for non-standard LEDs to us (SMD 1206 series are the best for mounting).

Membrane switch with display windows

LCD and LED displays can be installed behind a membrane switch. Therefore, windows are made in a graphic overlay. The other layers have cut-outs in the position of the window.

To enhance clarity over the windows a graphic overlay of a matt or textured film must be printed over the window with a gloss coat. Windows on graphic overlays of a gloss film stay without a print; on the other hand, the other gloss surface is textured with ink. On request, we can print the display windows on the back of the overlay material with transparent coloured ink (red, green, blue, etc.).
